Memories of Cordoba
I have so many lovely memories of Cordoba.
Solitary Walk
After our last 'organized event' in Cordoba I elected to walk back to the hotel, about a half hour walk. I wanted to spend a little bit more time in its old city centre. Later one of our group Maria said to me, "Oh Carolynn! You are so brave!"
No worries. I knew the street to walk up was a busy one and it was only late afternoon with twilight just beginning by the time I got back.
I do laugh, though. As I walked back I passed many a group of young people who has spilled out onto the sidewalks from the cafes. The air was fragrant with - hmm... how to say this? - how about "herbs". I think, perhaps, those young people had either made a trip to Morocco or Amsterdam recently. :)
Cultural Discovery
I was able to get back to the hotel - lovely hotel as you will see from the pictures, but about a 1/2 hour walk from the old town - to attend one of Antonio's "Cultural Discoveries" - the "Sol y Sombra" - a Spanish liqueur.
I LOVED the "Sol y Sombra", when in fact I hadn't expected to since I usually don't like liqueurs. It is a mixture of Anisette with brandy - called Sol y Sombra for "sun and shade" - dark brandy (shade) with the clear anise (sun). I even asked for a wee bit more saying "Sombra Sol" but Antonio corrected me saying it was always Sol first.
Cordoba Synagogue: Our tour included a walking tour and a visit through the old Jewish quarter and a visit to its synagogue, the only ancient synagogue still standing in Spain outside of Toledo.
Paella: Jenny, one of our tour members, very generously treated the group to some Paella - a famous Spanish dish. Alas, I could not partake because it included shell fish, but the meal I ordered was incredibly wonderful so no disappointment.
Make sure you watch the slide show - so many, many, many wonderful images - and consequently memories - are depicted.
